A 140-acre golf course in Leicestershire has been put up for sale after falling into administration. Forest Hill Golf Club in Botcheston was established in 1991 and boasts more than 600 active members.
The site, situated just 20 minutes from Leicester city centre, features a championship 18-hole golf course and, unlike many other traditional golf venues, has also been extensively modernised to capture a more diverse range of revenue streams.
In addition to the main course, the facility also includes advanced training facilities, such as a floodlit 20-bay driving range and three-bay golf simulation suite, and family and lifestyle leisure facilities, including an 18-hole adventure golf course, a newly-equipped gym and fitness studio and a lounge bar and restaurant.
Despite the significant capital investments that the owners have undertaken in the business, and its loyal member base, the golf course reportedly faced a liquidity squeeze that ultimately led to it falling into administration.
Following their appointment, administrators have said they will continue trading the golf course, which remains open and fully operational, while a buyer is sought for the 140-acre freehold and the site’s modern equipment. The business remaining operational will help to preserve goodwill and maintain the golf course’s workforce.
The sale has been described as offering a range of opportunities for potential new owners, such as developers, hospitality investors and general distressed buyers. The site was subject of a £2.2 million bid by Leicester City Football Club in 2017, as well as a recent plan to develop a 98-bedroom hotel.
The golf course, which generates established recurring revenue, offers both a plug-and-play hospitality operation and significant potential for development and repurposing.
In accounts for the year to May 31 2025, Forest Hill Golf Club Limited’s fixed assets were valued at £6.6 million and current assets at slightly over £178,000, with net assets totalling approximately £210,000.
