An electric vehicle (EV) charging manufacturer based in Birmingham has fallen into administration, with a number of jobs lost as a result. Petalite Limited fell into administration after struggling to secure new investment, with administrators saying there remains “significant value” in the company’s intellectual property despite its collapse.
The company had developed a unique AC-DC conversion technology (SDC) and described itself as taking an approach in which EV chargers were designed as critical infrastructure. It had been seeking to secure new investment in order to support the next stage of its commercial growth, but this funding process ultimately proved unsuccessful.
As a result, Geoff Rowley and Simon Baggs of FRP Advisory were appointed as joint administrators of the company on December 11 2025. Several redundancies were subsequently announced, but a core team has been retained to support the joint administrators as they explore options for the company and its technology.
FRP Advisory director and joint administrator Simon Baggs commented: "Petalite developed compelling proprietary technology with the potential to disrupt the EV charging market. Like many early-stage businesses, it faced significant fundraising challenges in a difficult investment climate.”
"Despite that, there is still significant value in the company and its IP and we're optimistic that, under the right new ownership, a route forward can be found for Petalite's EV charging solutions."
In accounts for the year to December 31 2024, during which time it employed an average of 50 staff, Petalite Limited’s fixed assets were valued at approximately £430,000 and current assets at around £1.2 million. However, the company’s net liabilities at the time amounted to almost £5.3 million.
