A Cheshire-based used motorcycle retailer, has fallen into administration and ceased trading. After an accelerated process failed to secure a buyer, administrators are now looking to sell Superbike Factory Limited’s assets.
The company operated six UK showrooms, as well as an online sales platform, and employed 273 staff. However, administrators said it had been hit by challenging trading conditions impacting the UK’s motorcycle retail sector.
Headwinds identified as affecting the business included a prolonged downturn in sales of both new and used motorcycles, increased operating costs, tighter consumer finance markets and continued uncertainty across the wider motor finance market.
In the year to December 31 2024, the company reported revenue of approximately £82.3 million, up from £81.5 million a year earlier. However, the company’s operating losses widened from £3.9 million to £16.1 million, which was mainly attributed to an investment impairment in subsidiaries of £14.5 million.
Prior to the appointment of administrators, Superbike Factory’s directors sought professional advice and explored a number of options, including an accelerated sale process to find a buyer for the business.
Despite the brand’s strength and market position meaning a number of parties expressed interest, it was ultimately not possible to secure a sale of the company as a going concern.
As a result, it has now fallen into administration and ceased trading, with all employees made redundant, other than a small number retained to support administrators in the sale of the company’s assets.
One of the joint administrators for Superbike Factory commented: "Approximately 273 employees have been affected by the appointment, and our immediate priority is to support employees through the redundancy process, including assisting them with claims to the Redundancy Payments Service, while securing and safeguarding the company's assets for the benefit of creditors.”
"We are reviewing the financial situation and will be contacting sellers and customers over the course of the coming days with instructions as to next steps."
In the company’s latest accounts, its non-current assets were valued at slightly under £18.2 million and current assets at £21.7 million. However, net liabilities totalled approximately £1.2 million at the time.
This thriving provider of bathroom solutions stands out with its dual role as both a supplier and installer, ensuring diverse revenue streams.
