Administrators are seeking a buyer for a children’s bicycle manufacturer and say they have already received an encouraging level of interest from potential buyers. Frog Bikes Limited fell into administration last week after filing a notice of intention to appoint administrators earlier this month.
Headquartered in Berkshire and with a main factory in Pontypool, Frog Bikes has established itself as a prominent manufacturer of lightweight children’s bicycles. The firm saw a period of exceptional growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Prince Louis pictured riding one of its bicycles in 2021.
However, a post-pandemic correction in the cycling market, along with rising operational costs, increasingly complex international trade and tighter financial conditions meant that the business began to face significant financial pressure.
In the year ending February 29 2024, the company recovered from an operating loss in the previous year to record a profit of around £351,000, but saw turnover fall from approximately £9.5 million to £5.9 million.
Despite these challenges, the company said this year that it remained the “clear market leader” in the UK premium children’s bikes space and had seen growing demand over recent months. The firm also supplies to more than 35 global markets.
After filing the NOI, the company said that the move would provide stability and protection while it continued to assess its funding and restructuring options and search for a suitable partner and that the business would continue trading.
Tony Wright and Alastair Massey of FRP Advisory were subsequently appointed as joint administrators on February 19 2026. The joint administrators are continuing to trade the business while exploring options, including a sale as a going concern, with several parties having already expressed interest in a deal.
Tony Wright, joint administrator of Frog Bikes Ltd and partner at FRP, commented: "Frog Bikes is a well-loved brand with an excellent reputation for producing high-quality bikes that are popular with children and families across the country. We're encouraged by the level of interest we've already received from prospective buyers.”
"Our focus now is on continuing to trade the business while we work to identify the best possible outcome for all stakeholders. We would encourage any interested parties to contact us as soon as possible."
In its most recent accounts, the company’s fixed assets were valued at £541,159 and current assets at around £6.4 million, with total equity amounting to £1.2 million.
