A brewery based in North London has fallen into administration, with a search underway to find a buyer for the business. Redemption Brewing Company Limited is a family-owned brewery in Tottenham and has been described as a major part of the resurgence in London's craft beer scene.
Established in 2010, the brewery supplies approximately 75 regular pubs in and around London. The company’s flagship products include Hopspur, a premium bitter named in tribute to local football club Tottenham Hotspur, and Big Chief, a New World IPA.
Redemption Brewing Company has come to be seen as a major part of the Tottenham community, with strong links to Tottenham Hotspur, and was part of the 2013 community campaign to save The Antwerp Arms, the oldest working pub in N17 and one of the brewery’s customers.
The company’s collapse follows a winding-up petition filed against it in January 2026 by HMRC, as well as wider mounting pressure across the brewery and hospitality industries.
The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA) has said the industry is facing a “survival crisis”, with a significant number of recent closures. Brewers across the UK are being hit by higher operating costs, rising alcohol duty, business rates, VAT, employment taxes and corporation tax.
According to administrators, Redemption Brewing Company had faced “a sustained period of financial pressure”. The administrators added: “Rising duty rates in recent years have placed a particular burden on independent brewers, who face a more challenging cost environment than larger national and international competitors.”
The brewery will continue trading during the administration process, with administrators now searching for a suitable buyer or investor.
In accounts for the year to December 31 2024, Redemption Brewing Company Limited’s fixed assets were valued at £163,531 and current assets at £142,150. However, the company’s net liabilities at the time exceeded £705,000 and, in the most recent financial year, it was reported to have made a net loss of approximately £73,000.
