Administrators are set to explore options for the business and assets of Ceco, a Northern Ireland-based subsidiary of floor coverings distributor Headlam Group, following its collapse in late September.
Birmingham-based Headlam Group Plc fell into administration on September 8 2026 alongside trading subsidiary HFD Limited. The company had explored a range of options to address its liquidity position, including asset disposals and refinancing, but fell into administration having been unable to execute its long-term transformation plan.
The group’s Northern Ireland subsidiary Ceco (Flooring) Limited subsequently fell into administration on September 30 2026. Founded in 1978, the company was a prominent provider of flooring and wallcovering products to commercial and retail customers across the island of Ireland.
The firm’s collapse came after a detailed review of its available options, including a possible sale of the business and its assets. However, it was ultimately decided that there was no viable option other than to place the business into administration.
Following the appointment of administrators, the company has ceased trading, with the majority of its nine staff made redundant and a small number retained to assist in the orderly wind-down of the business.
One of the company’s joint administrators said: "Ceco built a strong reputation across Northern Ireland over many years, working with architects, interior designers, universities and education bodies on a range of prestigious commercial projects. It is particularly sad to see a business of this quality reach this point as a consequence of the challenges experienced by the wider Headlam group.”
"Our immediate priority is to support the employees affected by this news. We will also be engaging with customers and suppliers to fulfil outstanding orders where possible, and will be exploring options for the brand and assets of the business in due course."
In accounts for the year to December 31 2024, Ceco (Flooring) Limited reported turnover of £2.3 million, roughly level with its turnover the previous year. However, the company’s operating losses increased sharply from around £74,000 to more than £178,000.
At the time, its fixed assets were valued at £11,626 and current assets at approximately £1 million, with net assets totalling around £493,000.
Apart from Ceco, other trading subsidiaries within the Headlam group currently remain unaffected, including those trading under the Domus and Melrose name.
This thriving wholesale business is strategically located in the bustling district of Cheetham Hill, Manchester, offering a prime spot within a busy parade of diverse trades and close to the city centre.
This well-established independent business, located in the picturesque Isle of Arran, has been serving both trade and retail customers since inception.
