An Ayrshire-based soft furnishings wholesaler has fallen into administration after more than 30 years of trading. Following their appointment earlier this month, administrators are now focused on realising value from the assets of Lanfine Limited.
Lanfine, which was based in Darvel, was a longstanding wholesaler of soft furnishings, including curtains, cushions and other home furnishings, to UK retailers. The firm’s main customers included Laura Ashley and John Lewis.
The company also offered direct-to-consumer online sales through marketplaces including Etsy and Shopify, with these operations trading under the name The Honesty Works.
The business fell into administration in the wake of a period of mounting cost pressures, which reduced its margins and had an adverse impact on profitability and cashflow. Recent supply-chain delays linked to unrest in the Middle East were also a factor in the company’s struggles.
As a result of these issues, Lanfine Limited fell into administration on July 10 2026. According to administrators, the company’s directors had explored several options to secure additional funding, including refinancing, but these ultimately proved unsuccessful.
All 19 employees at the company have now been made redundant as a result of the administration, with the joint administrators now focused on realising value from Lanfine Limited’s remaining assets.
In a statement, one of the company’s joint administrators said: “Lanfine was a well-regarded business that had operated from Darvel for more than 30 years and built longstanding relationships with major UK retailers.”
“Our immediate focus is on supporting employees with their claims and seeking to maximise value from the company’s remaining stock, plant and machinery. We would encourage any interested parties to contact us as soon as possible.”
In accounts for the year ending January 31 2025, Lanfine Limited’s fixed assets were valued at slightly more than £79,000 and current assets at £1.6 million. However, the company’s net liabilities at the time amounted to approximately £895,000.
