Parties interested in the business and assets of a Glasgow-based electrical firm have been urged to contact administrators following the company’s collapse. BGL Contracts Limited provided electrical fit-out and maintenance services to clients across sectors including retail, hospitality, leisure and automotive, specialising in sub-contract work.
The firm fell into administration last week, citing “insurmountable challenges”, with all jobs lost as a result of the company's collapse. According to administrators, the company had been operating in a “highly competitive market” and over recent months had struggled to overcome significant financial challenges, including “rising costs, low contract margins and the rephasing of some major contracts”.
Despite the company’s directors undertaking extensive efforts to secure fresh investment, the business was unable to meet its financial obligations as they fell due, resulting in the decision to appoint administrators. Upon the appointment of administrators, the business ceased trading, with all 40 employees at the company made redundant.
One of the administrators for BGL Contracts Limited commented: “The dynamics in electrical subcontracting are testing contractors to the limit. Businesses like BGL are being squeezed by rising costs and unforgiving contracts which have left them highly vulnerable to insolvency.”
“Unfortunately for BGL, these challenges proved insurmountable and without significant investment, the business was unfortunately unable to continue. Our immediate priority is to support impacted employees in submitting their claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.”
The joint administrators for BGL Contracts have now urged any parties interested in acquiring its business or assets to make contact.
In accounts for the year to July 31 2025, BGL Contracts Limited’s fixed assets were valued at around £5,400 and current assets at more than £1.7 million, with net assets amounting to approximately £287,000 at the time.
