A Derbyshire-based logistics company has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators. Grays Transport has filed the NOI as it completes a “planned restructure” aimed at securing its long-term future.
The Ripley-based firm is a family-run logistics company that specialises in moving furniture from manufacturers to retailers. According to Managing Director Jennifer Evans, the firm has "faced a series of significant commercial challenges" over the past two years.
Evans said that many of these challenges were beyond the company’s control and reflected “wider pressures across the UK furniture sector.” Challenges the company has faced include the sudden loss of major contracts, key customers falling into administration and a “broader slowdown” across the industry.
While Evans conceded that these headwinds had created a "particularly difficult trading environment for the business", she said that the underlying operation remains strong and that the company would continue trading as normal during this period.
She continued: "Our teams remain fully focused on supporting customers, maintaining service continuity, and delivering the specialist logistics services the business has become known for across the sector.”
"We appreciate that situations like this can naturally generate speculation, but customers and partners should be reassured that the intention of this process is to protect the long-term future of the business, not to disrupt the service that so many manufacturers and retailers rely upon.”
Evans said that, with certain regulatory steps still underway, it would be inappropriate to comment on the details of the firm’s proposed structure, but that the process was designed to “secure the long-term future of the business, protect our customers, and safeguard as many jobs as possible.”
She added: "While those steps are ongoing, we remain optimistic about the path ahead and encouraged by the support the business continues to receive from those who understand the value of Grays Transport, the experience of our team and the role we play within the furniture logistics sector.”
In accounts for the year to March 31 2025, Grays Transport (Derbyshire) Limited’s fixed assets were valued at £1.5 million and current assets at around £906,000. However, its net liabilities at the time totalled slightly over £436,000.
