Elbec Garden Buildings has entered administration after a problem with its merchant facility left the retailer unable to accept new orders. Administrators are now exploring rescue options, with outstanding customer commitments at the centre of any potential rescue.
Elbec Limited, which trades as Elbec Garden Buildings, sells bespoke garden buildings, including sheds, summerhouses, greenhouses and log cabins. Founded in 2004, the Nottingham-based business combined a show centre with a nationwide website, giving it a physical presence alongside an online route to market.
The company, which is based at Brookfields Garden Centre, Mapperley Plains, Nottingham, was placed into administration on July 23.
The business employed six people at the time of its appointment. Administrators are exploring whether the company can be saved, whether jobs can be preserved and whether all outstanding customer orders can be completed.
That focus matters for a retailer of made-to-order and higher-value garden buildings, where customer confidence, supplier relationships and delivery capacity are likely to be closely linked. Elbec’s website continues to display a broad catalogue across sheds, greenhouses, summerhouses, log cabins and garden furniture, including products from Forest, Elite, Shire, Rowlinson and Mercia.
One of the joint administrators said that the company had traded through the pandemic, cost-of-living crisis and inflationary pressures, adding: “The company has invested in a good website and we are hopeful that the business can be saved and the customer’s orders fulfilled.”
For a prospective buyer, the administration offers an opportunity to acquire an established garden-buildings platform with an existing customer-facing operation. However, any deal will need to provide a clear route for completing current orders, supporting affected customers and maintaining the business’s trading proposition.
The latest accounts filed at Companies House, for the year ended 31 December 2024, provide a snapshot of Elbec’s financial position before the administration. The company's current assets were valued at £840,118 and fixed assets at £65,927, with net assets totalling £528,107.
