Glasgow lighting retailer enters administration for second time

Pagazzi Lighting, a Glasgow-based lighting retailer, has entered administration for the second time in fewer than three years, closing all 11 retail stores across Scotland and northern England and making approximately 70 staff redundant.

George Lafferty of BTG was appointed administrator of Pagazzi Lighting Services on 27 February 2026 and Pagazzi Lighting Concessions Limited on 26 February 2026. The 11 stores closed on 25 February 2026.

The Thornliebank-headquartered company was founded in 1980 by Laura and Alan Pagan, initially operating a single specialist lighting shop on West George Street in Glasgow. The business evolved from selling handmade Italian lighting into a broader home interiors retailer offering ceiling lights, table lamps, wall lights, mirrors, artwork, and occasional furniture.

Pagazzi operated showrooms in multiple Scottish and English locations including Uddingston, Aberdeen, Dundee, Livingston, Braehead, and Walsall. The company employed approximately 70 staff across its retail network at the time of administration.

The most recent publicly available accounts for Pagazzi Lighting Limited are for the year ended 31 March 2022, showing turnover of £7.08 million, gross profit of £4.05 million, and operating profit of £205,230. The company's accounts for the year to 31 March 2023 remained overdue as of March 2026.

Pagazzi Lighting Limited previously entered administration on 29 September 2023, with Kenneth Pattullo and Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor appointed as joint administrators. That administration left creditors with an expected shortfall of £1.1 million, with HMRC owed £205,000 and unsecured creditors owed £635,000.

Three of the five stores at that time closed, whilst Aberdeen and Warrington continued trading via a licence through the connected company, Pagazzi Lighting Services Limited. The business and assets were sold to the connected company via a pre-appointment agreement.

Despite the restructuring following the 2023 administration, the reconstituted business continued to struggle with ongoing cash flow problems driven by sustained poor trading and the pressures of increased operating costs.

Thomas McKay, managing partner of BTG in Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: "Reduced margins, slower consumer spending and rising operating costs are creating challenges for many high street retailers, and unfortunately these are the main factors that saw the Pagazzi stores and concessions no longer able to trade."

Following efforts to secure a buyer for the business and assets, Pagazzi Lighting (Web) Limited, the online retail division, has acquired the business and assets and will operate from a handful of key retail outlets in Scotland alongside its digital platform.

BTG is working with PACE and the Redundancy Payments Service to support the 70 affected staff members.

The Pagazzi collapse forms part of a broader wave of insolvency activity across the UK furniture and home furnishings sector. Between October 2025 and January 2026, 31 UK furniture manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers entered liquidation or administration.
