Morecambe haulier collapses - lorries up for sale

J.M. Gorry & Son Limited, a family-run general haulage contractor based in Middlegate, Morecambe, has ceased trading and fallen into administration after more than 50 years in the transport industry.

The Lancashire-based firm appointed administrators Alan Coleman and Nicola Baker, both of FTS Recovery Limited, on 20 July 2026, with a notice confirming its position published in the London Gazette in the early hours of 22 July.

With the company having ceased trading, its fleet of trucks is being sent to auction. Details of the auction are available to Business Sale Report members.

Where a haulage business has stopped trading, its vehicles are often among its most readily realisable assets, and their sale through auction typically forms part of the administrators' efforts to recover value for creditors.
At this early stage there is no information on what the administration means for staff or whether jobs will be cut, and the reasons behind the company's difficulties have not been disclosed.

The company describes itself as a "well-established family run general haulage contractor" and states on its social media channels that it has "over 50 years of experience in the transport industry". It specialises in freight transport by road, focused on general haulage, the everyday transportation of standard goods.
J.M. Gorry & Son previously traded under the name Pinedeck Services Limited and was incorporated in 1986, according to Companies House.

The collapse is the latest in a string of failures across the UK freight sector this summer, with a number of businesses dropping into liquidation or administration. T.M.S Service Provider Limited appointed liquidators on 13 July 2026, while Leicestershire-based S&B Haulage Ltd appointed liquidators on 6 July.

The news comes months after the Road Haulage Association (RHA) warned that hundreds of companies were at risk of closing in 2026, with the number of insolvencies "tipped to rise" this year.

The trade body said almost 400 hauliers went out of business last year alone, following 470 firms in 2024 and more than 500 in 2023. The RHA said: "Higher interest rates, increased regulatory burdens, and ever-rising running costs continue to make trading more expensive, sending many long-established firms to the wall. Sadly, insolvency levels may rise as the impacts of the Middle East conflict continue in the months ahead.
