Pizza chain Pizza Hut will shut 68 of its UK restaurants after the company behind its estate fell into administration less than a year after acquiring the business. DC London Pie, which runs the chain’s dine-in restaurants in the UK, fell into administration on Monday.
The appointment of administrators from consulting firm FTI comes less than a year after DC London Pie acquired Pizza Hut’s restaurants from insolvency following the collapse of the previous franchisee. Reports indicate that approximately 1,200 workers will be affected by the closures.
Despite the closures of 68 restaurants, a further 64 of the chain’s dine-in sites have been safeguarded after they were acquired by American hospitality giant Yum! Brands (owner of the global Pizza Hut business) in a pre-pack administration deal that secures around 1,280 jobs.
Nicolas Burquier, Managing Director of Pizza Hut Europe and Canada, commented: "This targeted acquisition aims to safeguard our guest experience and protect jobs where possible. Our immediate priority is operational continuity at the acquired locations and supporting colleagues through the transition."
The administration and pre-pack deal come approximately six weeks after a subsidiary of Yum! Brands filed a winding-up petition against DC London Pie. DC London Pie was formed by Directional Capital (which operated franchises in Denmark and Sweden) after it acquired 139 UK Pizza Hut restaurants from previous franchisee Heart with Smart Limited in January 2025.
Heart with Smart Limited collapsed into administration at the start of this year under the weight of significant debts. Despite having returned to profitability in 2023 following a loss in 2022, the franchisee was reported to have owed close to £40 million to Pricoa Capital (which had previously backed a management buyout at the company) at the time of its collapse.
