A modular housing specialist based in Sussex is poised to fall into administration, leading to work stopping on a number of projects the firm was undertaking. Boutique Modern Limited, which operates from a factory in Newhaven, has been trading for nearly 16 years.
Boutique Modern specialises in delivering housing products for housing associations and local authorities. The company, which employs approximately 68 skilled workers, was incorporated in 2010 and has designed more than 240 homes to date.
According to its website, Boutique Modern was the UK’s first modular housing firm to achieve B Corp certification, with the company reportedly highly committed to social and environmental standards.
The company had been undertaking a number of live housing projects in Lancing, Eastbourne and St Leonards and was also set to begin its biggest project yet, delivering 100 homes at the Grade II-listed Victorian Pump House site in Eastbourne. Enabling works on the site were already underway, with the first units due to be delivered shortly.
In Lancing, the company was at an advanced stage of a project delivering 16 council homes for Adur council tenants. Despite the homes being due to be completed and handed over to Adur District Council within the next four months, work has now stopped and the council said it is “urgently seeking information”.
The council said: “We are now considering what action needs to be taken to secure the completion of the developments at Daniel Close and Gravelly Crescent. Work has stopped at both sites and we're seeking to liaise with the new administrators to get more information about the projects.”
In accounts for the year to June 30 2024, the company’s fixed assets were valued at approximately £80,000 and current assets at slightly over £2 million. However, significant debts meant that the company’s net liabilities ultimately totalled slightly more than £11,000.
