Yorkshire communications software firm enters administration

Teleware Limited, a Yorkshire-based communications software company with a 30-year trading history has collapsed into administration, with insolvency practitioners from Redman Nichols Butler appointed on 9 March.

The Easingwold-based company, which was founded in 1991 by Geoffrey Richard Haworth, designs and develops communication software for businesses. Teleware served high-profile clients including British Airways, the Bank of England, Sainsbury's, Deloitte, Samsung, the NHS, Bupa and Barclays, working with over 20 per cent of the FTSE 100.

The company's core products included Teleware Recording for Microsoft Teams, Re:Call Mobile Call Recording, Cloud Contact Centre, and a managed service for unified communications. Teleware achieved two notable world firsts, including being the first to route, record and analyse a call in real time using Microsoft Azure, and became the world's leading provider of mobile call recording.

The company held strategic partnerships with BT, Deloitte and PwC, alongside a 25-year collaboration with Microsoft. It held Microsoft Gold Partner status in multiple disciplines and was registered at Unit 1, The Hawk Creative Business Park, The Hawkhills Estate, Easingwold, York.

Teleware suffered a steep revenue decline in recent years, from approximately £7.9 million in the year ending March 2019 to £3.5 million in March 2023. Whilst the company maintained slim profitability between 2019 and 2022, the year ending March 2023 saw the operating result swing from a profit of £90,000 to a loss of £1.275 million. Pre-tax loss for that year was £1.282 million.

Employee numbers declined in parallel, from 69 in 2019 to 34 in 2023, and further to 32 by 2024. The most recent publicly available accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024 showed net assets of £2.39 million against total liabilities of £2.06 million. The debt ratio rose to 46 per cent.

Steven Richard Haworth, who was appointed as a director in June 2019 and serves as CEO, is the sole current director of Teleware Limited. Geoffrey Richard Haworth, the founder and chairman, held 26 appointments across the Teleware group and associated entities. In April 2025, he ceased as a person with significant control of Teleware Group Limited, with control passing to Steven Richard Haworth and Helen Kirstie Aston Haworth.

The company was originally established as a public limited company under the name Teleware Public Limited Company before being re-registered as a private limited company in April 2022. The parent entity is Teleware Group Limited, formerly known as Teleware Group PLC, which was incorporated on 30 June 2004.

Teleware operated in a competitive market for unified communications and call recording, competing against larger players including Verint, NICE, AudioCodes and Dubber. Yorkshire and The Humber accounted for 7 per cent of all UK administrations in 2025, with industry commentators emphasising that pressures around cashflow, business costs and the rising cost of living remain significant for many firms.
