Coventry-based specialist fluid technologies operating partner Flowmax Group has appointed national audit, tax, advisory and consulting firm Crowe to identify M&A opportunities within the UK water sector.
Flowmax focuses on supporting owner-managed businesses. The group, which has more than 25 years of experience, comprises 15 businesses, generating annual turnover of more than £60 million and with over 210 colleagues.
Under the new partnership, Crowe’s corporate finance team will support Flowmax in identifying opportunities to acquire owner-managed SMEs that assemble and distribute products used across water industry applications ranging from wastewater, potable water and sludge treatment, to water quality monitoring and network infrastructure.
The firm will target established SMEs engaged in assembling and distributing fluid management and control products that support critical water infrastructure. It will primarily focus on companies generating revenues of between £3 million and £8 million and that employ approximately ten to 35 staff.
Flowmax Group Chief Executive Graham Morrell said: "Our focus is on specialist fluid management and control businesses and on creating brighter futures for owner-managers and their teams.”
"The UK water sector is a priority for us, particularly potable water, and we see a clear opportunity to support our operating companies by bringing together complementary businesses that strengthen technical capability, collaboration and the value we deliver to customers.”
"Whether businesses join an existing subsidiary or become part of the group directly, our objective is to create long-term value through complementary expertise, not simply greater scale.”
Morrell added that working with Crowe would enable the company to identify targets with a shared focus on specialist fluid management and control, as well as creating opportunities for owner-managers to build with the support of a specialist group.
According to Flowmax, future acquisitions will be considered in instances where there is a strong strategic fit, with deals intended to either strengthen existing operating companies within the group or complement the group more broadly.
Ryan Niblock, director - corporate finance at Crowe, said: "Flowmax has a clear understanding of the businesses where it can add value, and we are pleased to support its search for companies that align with its strategy.”
"The UK water sector includes many highly specialised businesses with strong technical expertise and long-standing customer relationships.”
"We look forward to engaging with companies that are considering their future growth plans and exploring opportunities to build on their existing success, and supporting Flowmax through every stage of the acquisition process from identification through to completion."
When pursuing a buy and build acquisition strategy, integration should be a more pressing consideration than scale
