A personal injury law firm based in Manchester has secured private equity investment, enabling it to accelerate its growth plans. The backing from Swiss private equity firm Ufenau Capital Partners will provide Express Solicitors with the financing to continue its acquisition-based expansion strategy and follows significant recent growth.
Express Solicitors, which is based in Manchester, reported an increase in turnover to £88.5 million this year, up from £70.6 million in its previous results. Earlier this year, the company acquired Liverpool-based HNK Solicitors and fellow Manchester firm Graham Coffey & Co. Solicitors.
James Maxey, Chief Executive of Express Solicitors, said the investment was a “milestone transaction” for the company following its recent acquisitions and its progression from #70 to #64 in The Lawyer’s UK 200 ladder.
Maxey added that the firm’s partnership with Ufenau “will provide the strategic and financial firepower to support the continued development of Express Solicitors while delivering best in class services to injured people."
Ufenau Managing Partner Ralf Flore added: "We are really excited to partner with James and the team at Express Solicitors, not only does this mark Ufenau’s first platform investment in the UK market since we opened the office in 2024, it serves as a strong platform to execute our systematic buy-and-build approach, while building on our expertise in the highly fragmented sector of professional legal services."
Ufenau Capital Partners supports profitable, high growth service companies with robust business models that are pursuing buy-and-build growth strategies and are seeking majority participation. The firm’s existing portfolio includes engineering, data analytics and infrastructure maintenance businesses.
Following the investment, the Ufenau team will work closely with Express Solicitors’ existing management team on the company’s growth strategy.
