An insurance and risk management consultancy headquartered in the North West of England is set to target acquisitions after securing a multimillion-pound growth funding facility from TDC.
The funding marks the next stage in Lytham-based Tower Insurance Brokers’ rapid expansion. The firm is seeking to bolster its position in the market and will use the funding from TDC’s Impact Fund to target acquisitions that bring a greater number of niche capabilities into its growing network.
Since being launched by Tim Forshaw in 2017, Tower Insurance Brokers has expanded organically without external investment, growing from a single desk to a Top 100 broker with nearly £40 million in gross written premium.
This growth has been underpinned by the firm’s focus on non-standard commercial risks, typically underserved by mainstream insurers. The company works in areas including hospitality venues, family entertainment centres, large property developers, construction and landlords.
Tim Forshaw, CEO at Tower Insurance Brokers, said that the company had sought to “challenge outdated underwriting assumptions” and serve niche industries. Having attained exponential growth over the past eight years using this model, Forshaw said, the firm had recognised the need to attract additional investment to continue its growth.
"When we met TDC, it was clear we were culturally aligned,” Forshaw said, adding: “They understood our business immediately and saw the potential investment could unlock for us. Now, with the investment in place, we’re entering a new stage for the business as we go on the acquisition trail and look to bring in senior talent.”
TDC Investment Director Jon Petty described Tower as “an exceptional example of a founder-led business that has identified a market gap and built a high-growth company around deep specialist knowledge.”
He continued: "This is exactly what our Impact Fund was designed for, supporting high growth Northern businesses to scale, creating jobs and boost the regional economy."
