The UK government has executed a substantial U-turn on its controversial inheritance tax proposals for agricultural businesses, raising the threshold for full relief from £1 million to £2.5 million following months of sustained pressure from the farming community and dissent among Labour's own backbenchers.
The revised policy, announced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on 23rd December 2025, represents a significant retreat from the original proposals unveiled in Chancellor Rachel Reeves's Autumn Budget.
