A Halesowen-headquartered manufacturer whose products are primarily used for turbine blades and aerofoil structures has been acquired by private equity firm Rubicon Partners. Erodex Graphite Systems Limited, which dates back to 1973, has been acquired from its family shareholders.
The company is a manufacturer and global supplier operating through two divisions: one that manufactures and supplies carbon and graphite parts for an array of industries and ancillary products for the EDM sector; and another that manufactures carbon brush and associated accessories.
Erodex Graphite Systems has in-house design, tooling and manufacturing capabilities, with machine shops in both the UK and US. The firm is best known for its premium graphite electrodes and brass tubes that support global OEM and Tier 1 manufacturers.
In the year to February 28 2025, the company reported turnover of slightly more than £20 million, up from £18.7 million the previous year, while operating profits increased from £2.5 million to £3.4 million.
The acquisition of Erodex Graphite Systems is the 85th industrial investment made by Rubicon Partners and the second investment through its Rubicon Partners Fund VI SCSp, a fund targeting mid-market businesses with an enterprise value of up to £200 million.
Rubicon Partners, a specialist industrial investor, has previously made seven investments in the Aerospace sector, including Farsound Aviation, Attewell (now part of Avantus Aerospace) and Invotec (now part of Amphenol).
Following the acquisition and the retirement of Erodex’s family shareholders, the business will be led by Operations Director James Kirk, who will step up to CEO, alongside CFO Raj Rainu.
Together with the wider leadership team, Kirk and Rainu will drive the next phase of the company’s international growth, in partnership with Rubicon.
