Private equity-backed accountancy group BK Plus has entered Birmingham city centre for the first time with the acquisition of MDP, a firm providing advice to SMEs and owner-managed businesses across the city.
The acquisition provides BK Plus with its first city centre office in the Midlands, with MDP’s team to continue operating from the company’s current premises in Birmingham. BK Plus, which was founded in Walsall just five years ago, now has 35 offices. The 700-strong group is backed by Palatine Private Equity.
Arran Jones, partner at MDP, commented: "We're excited to be joining BK Plus at such a pivotal time in its journey. Our clients will continue to receive the same personal service and advice they trust, but now with access to even more services, specialists and national support.”
"We've found a true cultural fit in BK Plus, and this next chapter brings fantastic opportunities for our clients and our team."
Fellow MDP partner David Whale said that the MDP teams had worked together for more than 45 years, building “one of best independent corporate accountancy practices in Birmingham city centre servicing the SME market.”
The deal continues a strong acquisitive streak for BK Plus, with the group completing a string of transactions across Yorkshire, Scotland, the North West and the South West this year.
Shaun Knight, Chief Executive of BK Plus, said: "MDP is an important step in our journey, not just because of their quality and reputation, but because it brings us into Birmingham city centre for the first time.”
"It's a return to our Midlands roots with a renewed focus on supporting SMEs in the places where we started. The team at MDP are experienced, trusted and fully aligned with our values."
In accounts for the year to March 31 2024, BK Plus Limited reported turnover of £14 million, up from £8.5 million a year earlier, while operating profit dipped marginally from £1 million to £995,000. In their report, BK Plus’ directors largely attributed the group’s increased revenue to the eight acquisitions it had completed during the year.
