InstaVolt has agreed to acquire 228 charging locations from the GeniePoint network, in a deal that will take the firm past 1,000 EV charging sites nationwide. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to complete during the next quarter.
It will bring more than 260 chargers into the company, taking its network to more than 4,250 chargers across approximately 1,200 locations, reinforcing its standing as the largest ultra-rapid public charging network in the UK.
The acquired estate includes charging points at motorway services, local authority car parks, retail and hospitality destinations across the UK. The deal also includes a framework agreement with several national brands.
InstaVolt says that all of the acquired locations will be rebranded and upgraded over the next 12 months, under an investment programme that will deliver enhanced grid connections, the installation of BYD ultra-rapid charging technology, battery energy storage systems and improved signage.
The firm expects to increase the number of chargers across the newly-acquired sites from over 260 to more than 400. It will also introduce contactless payment, no-subscription models and network reliability to deliver uptime of more than 99 per cent.
During the post-sale transition, GeniePoint will continue to operate and maintain its existing chargers until they are replaced, with customers continuing to receive 24/7 support while the migration takes place.
Delvin Lane, Chief Executive Officer of InstaVolt, said that the deal was a major milestone for the company, as well as a significant transaction across the wider UK EV charging market, making it the first operator to pass more than 1,000 sites nationwide.
Lane continued: “The UK EV market is moving quickly, with more than two million electric cars now on UK roads and demand continuing to grow. Drivers need infrastructure that keeps pace, and that means more chargers in the right places, working reliably, every time.”
“Acquiring these sites allows us to bring InstaVolt’s reliability and simplicity to even more locations. It is a clear statement of our commitment to building the public charging network the country needs as it makes the switch to electric.”
