Assisi Pet Care, an acquisitive producer of natural pet foods and treats, has announced the acquisition of Devon-based natural pet food manufacturer Forthglade Foods. Okehampton-headquartered Forthglade specialises in manufacturing high-quality, minimally-processed wet and dry dog foods, as well as natural treats.
Founded in 1971, Forthglade has been backed by IK Partners since 2020, when the private equity firm acquired a majority stake in the business. Since its investment in Forthglade, IK Partners’ backing has helped to expand the company’s production capacity, accelerate its digital commercial footprint and scale its offering across wet and dry food, treats and supplements.
In the year to September 30 2025, Forthglade Foods Limited reported turnover of £39.5 million, up from just under £37.1 million a year earlier, while EBITDA increased from £3.7 million to £4.7 million.
The acquisition is described as a significant strategic milestone for Assisi in its efforts to build a European premium, natural pet care brand. Post-sale, Forthglade will join the group’s existing portfolio of premium brands, including Burns, Hollings, HiLife, Maced, Pet Munchies, Yakers and NAW.
Assisi, which is headquartered in London, has manufacturing facilities in the UK and Poland, serving a customer base of specialist pet, grocery and ecommerce operators across Europe.
Chris Melander, Chief Executive at Assisi Pet Care, said: "We have long admired Forthglade and the business David and his team have built. To create such a strong brand, trusted by pet owners is a real achievement, underpinned by a passionate commitment to natural, high-quality nutrition.”
"Forthglade is an excellent fit for Assisi, and we are excited to invest behind the brand and the business to unlock its next phase of growth."
Forthglade CEO David Cox said that joining Assisi was testament to the company’s journey in establishing itself as “a trusted leader in premium, minimally processed pet food.”
Cox continued: "Partnering with Assisi provides the strategic support to accelerate our growth and we are all excited about the next stage for the business."
