Urban Edge Environmental Consulting, a specialist ecological, arboricultural and environmental planning consultancy based near Brighton, has been acquired by an acquisitive larger group.
London-based Ecology Group’s takeover of Urban Edge Environmental Consulting is its tenth acquisition and fourth of 2026 so far. Since being founded in spring 2025, Ecology Group has acquired MKA Ecology, Burton Reid Associates, Earth Active, Living Earth, Johns Associates, Wildwood Ecology, Mine Environment Management and E3P.
Ecology Group invests in the organic growth of each business that it acquires, providing the resources and strategic support required to facilitate operational enhancement and service capability expansion.
Urban Edge Environmental Consulting, which was founded in 2011, provides sustainable development support to private sector clients across the South East, with clients including Bellway, Persimmon, Dandara and Vistry.
The company and its 20-strong team also advises public sector bodies on environmental and sustainability-related issues, including working with the councils of Brighton & Hove, Fareham, Eastleigh, South Oxfordshire and Somerset.
Chris Heyes, Chief Financial Officer at Ecology Group, said: "It's wonderful to see that in just over a year of operation, we have now reached the milestone of welcoming the tenth business to our growing and ambitious group.”
"We were always excited by the opportunity to bring Urban Edge Environmental into the group, and with its strong presence in the South East and strong track record, the business is a hugely valuable addition to our group."
Nick Pincombe, Managing Director of Urban Edge Environmental, said that the firm was impressed by Ecology Group’s approach of recognising that “each consultancy within it is a leader in its own, respective field.”
He continued: "We're impressed by the Group's growth so far, and together with our fellow businesses, our people, and the support of the Group team, I'm confident about what we can achieve in terms of delivering real impact for business and biodiversity and accelerating the strategic direction of the business."
