Sedulo Group, a UK business advisory firm, has expanded into Scotland with the acquisition of an accountancy practice and the opening of an office in Glasgow. The group has acquired Kilmarnock-based Smith & Wallace in a deal that takes its team to nearly 250 advisers.
Smith & Wallace, which generates revenues of more than £1 million, is led by Andrew McMorland and Martin Farrell, who will continue to head up the business post-acquisition. They will be joined by Logan Rowan, the head of Sedulo’s Deal Advisory team.
The deal provides Sedulo with a strong base from which to build its presence in Scotland. The group has also opened a new office in the centre of Glasgow, enabling it to extend its full service advisory offering and target additional acquisitions in the region.
Sedulo Group has offices in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Birmingham and Dubai. The group, which provides audit, tax reliefs and incentives, debt advisory, financial planning and deal advisory services, has recently made a number of senior hires in Scotland and is planning further recruitment across multiple disciplines.
Having recently reported annual revenues of close to £25 million, Sedulo Group is seeking to double in size over the next four years. A core part of this strategy includes expansion into new regions and entering Scotland represents a major step in this effort.
Sedulo Group founder Paul Cheetham-Karcz said: “We set a strategy three years ago at £15m revenue, that along with doubling in size, we wanted to become a national mid-tier firm.“
"This meant that Scotland was always in the plan, as was Birmingham which we opened two years ago, and now we look to bed the latest acquisition in before looking at a further UK office in 2027.”
Cheetham-Karcz continued that it was vital for the firm to get the right partners in Scotland and hailed Andrew McMorland and Martin Farrell as a strong fit, calling Smith & Wallace “an ambitious, fast-growing, dynamic firm, led by two people we can trust.”
He said that Logan Rowe was from the area and that the group would seek to use his “networks and knowledge of the local market”.
Andrew McMorland and Martin Farrell added: “The decision to join forces with Sedulo has been carefully considered and we prioritised finding the right cultural and strategic fit for our clients and our team. Our firms align in putting clients and people first, which is central to both our businesses.”
“The additional services and resources Sedulo offer will benefit both our clients and team while allowing us to remain face-to-face with our existing customers.Finding the right partner was crucial, and we are delighted to become part of Sedulo.”
