Professional services firm AMS Group has expanded with the acquisition of BW Medical, a Newcastle-based accountancy practice serving the healthcare industry. BW Medical serves more than 2,000 healthcare professionals and over 100 GP practices across the UK.
The acquisition brings approximately 30 new staff into AMS Group, including directors Keith Taylor, David Elliot and Mark Demsey, who will remain in their roles to support the company's integration into the group and ensure continuity for clients and staff.
Through the deal, AMS Group will build one of the UK’s largest specialist medical accounting practices, with the AMS Medical business set to have a team of over 100 professionals exclusively focused on the healthcare sector.
Following the acquisition, AMS Group will support more than 2,500 individual GPs, consultants, and other medical professionals nationwide, as well as over 300 GP practices.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen the group’s medical accounting offering, while introducing additional expertise in areas including GP advisory services, NHS pension management and specialist medical compliance.
AMS Group Head of Strategy Paul Lupton said that the group continues “to execute on our long-term strategy of building specialist sector-focused capabilities” and that the acquisition of BW Medical “complements our existing healthcare offering perfectly and provides a platform for further growth in this important market."
AMS Healthcare director Yasin Muminovic called BW Medical “a respected competitor in the healthcare space” and said that the company’s “technical expertise, long-standing client relationships, and cultural alignment” stood out.
AMS Group Chief Operating Officer Victoria Hopkins said that BW Medical brought “unmatched specialist knowledge in NHS pensions and healthcare compliance” and that the group looked forward to working with the firm to build “on their strong foundation through our technology platform, efficient processes, and advisory-led model."
BW Medical Accountants Managing Director Keith Taylor said that the deal would enhance the professional services the company can offer to its clients, adding: "There are great cultural similarities with respect to our teams and clients and whilst we continue to operate independently we will benefit from the broader support and synergy of the AMS Group."
The deal is the fifth strategic acquisition that Manchester-headquartered AMS Group has completed in the past 18 months, following the acquisitions of Elect Capital Allowances, Chadwick & Co, Crane Dale Tax, and Isaacs Accountants, which have all been successfully integrated.
