Beyond Law Group has acquired Hawkswell Kilvington, a specialist construction law practice, in the private equity-backed group’s fifth acquisition of a specialist legal practice. Following the acquisition, the company will operate as Hawkswell Kilvington Construction Law, in order to reflect its niche expertise and strong brand equity.
The company will now operate from Manchester, in addition to its existing offices in Leeds and London. The move unites Hawkswell Kilvington’s award-winning team with the construction team at Beyond Corporate, establishing a significantly strengthened national construction law business.
The acquisition of the 20-strong construction team takes Beyond Law Group’s employee headcount to over 130. In the current financial year, the group’s projected revenues are expected to exceed £20 million.
The deal is described as aligning with Manchester-based Beyond Law Group’s strategy of developing and building specialist legal firms. The group’s existing practices include Beyond Corporate, McAlister Family Law, Home Property Law and Vault Private Client.
Post-acquisition, Hawkswell Kilvington will be led by its existing management team of Daniel Silberstein and Thomas Salter, along with James Flynn, head of Beyond Corporate’s construction team. The leadership team will head the practice’s day-to-day management, as well as driving both organic and acquisitive growth.
Following completion of the deal, Hawkswell Kilvington will be integrated into the Beyond Law Group platform. Hawkswell Kilvington Construction Law is expected to use the additional resources and infrastructure provided by Beyond Law Group to accelerate its growth and strengthen its industry standing.
Beyond Law Group founder and Chief Executive Matt Fleetwood called the acquisition “a significant step” for the group, forming part of its “long-term strategy to build leading specialist legal practices under our group structure.”
He continued: "Hawkswell Kilvington is an exceptional specialist construction practice with an outstanding reputation, and as with our other practices, is a real challenger in its sector.”
"Bringing together the Hawkswell Kilvington team and the Beyond Corporate construction team will give the Group and the individual teams the momentum to further grow and build on an already established national presence. This move also puts the group’s roots in Yorkshire, which is part of our growth strategy.”
Daniel Silberstein, Managing Partner at Hawkswell Kilvington Construction Law, said that joining Beyond Law Group would provide the company with “tremendous opportunities for growth and development.”
Silberstein added that the deal would enable Hawkswell Kilvington “to further strengthen our offering and reputation as a leading construction law specialist, whilst also creating greater opportunities for our people within a dynamic and ambitious group on a strong growth trajectory."
James Flynn, Head of Construction at Beyond Corporate, said that the combination of the two businesses would bring “deep sector knowledge and practical experience across the full spectrum of construction law services” and enable the group to “accelerate growth, with a brief to become the UK’s leading construction law practice”.
Group Managing Director Mark Dawson said: "Our immediate priority will be to ensure the smooth transition of the Hawkswell Kilvington team onto the Beyond platform. Once this is complete, our focus will turn to the full integration of the construction law teams, creating even greater opportunities for collaboration and growth across the group.”
