Clear Horizon IS, a provider of digital services for regulated network operators, has been acquired by BGF-backed Skewb. The acquisition will support continued investment in Clear Horizon IS’s flagship CHiME application, which is used by regulated infrastructure operators across the water, energy and rail sectors.
Founded in 2014 by Heather McCusker (pictured above) and Paul McKeon, Clear Horizon IS helps organisations to bolster their operational performance, productivity and visibility across complex field-based delivery environments.
The CHiME application supports a number of distribution network operators (DNOs) in the UK, as well as one in Ireland, providing the combined business with a strong foundation to target future growth. In addition to supporting ongoing investment in the application, the deal will also provide customers with access to Skewb’s broader capabilities and backing.
Post-transaction, Clear Horizon IS will continue to be lead by its co-founders, helping to ensure continuity for customers, partners and staff.
Clear Horizon IS co-founder and CEO Heather McCusker said that the deal marked the start of a new chapter for the firm, adding that there was “a strong alignment” in the two companies’ “vision, values and commitment to delivering high-quality, impactful solutions for our clients.”
She continued: "Together, we have a fantastic opportunity to scale CHiME, expand our reach and continue delivering meaningful innovation across the power sector and beyond.”
Skewb co-founder and CEO Shashi Seshadri described the deal, the company’s first corporate acquisition, as representing a strong strategic fit and “a major step forward in delivering our growth ambitions.”
Seshadri continued: "By bringing together our capabilities, we are accelerating our ability to capitalise on emerging opportunities, strengthening our technical and operational expertise and creating new opportunities for innovation and collaboration across sectors. This is an important step in building a more diverse, future-ready business. We look forward to adding the Clear Horizon IS employees and partners to the Skewb ecosystem.”
Jonathan Earl, partner at BGF, added: "What excited us about Skewb when we first invested in the business was the opportunity to disrupt the UK power sector through its innovative approach.”
"Since then, the team has made significant strides in how they help water and energy companies tackle key challenges and achieve operational efficiencies through transformational projects, managed services and a growing portfolio of digital products.”
"This acquisition is a real statement of intent that doubles down on Skewb’s growth ambitions – we look forward to supporting the team beyond this exciting inflection point."
