The business and assets of a waste firm based in Staffordshire have been acquired from liquidators in a deal that secures the future of the firm’s waste processing operations and safeguards eight jobs.
Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre Limited appointed Steve Currie of Currie Young and Adam Harris and Natasha Brodie of Forvis Mazars as liquidators in August 2025. The liquidators then worked with the company’s directors and stakeholders to identify a viable option for the business.
Currie Young has now completed a sale of the business and key assets of the company to Stoke-on-Trent-based Hyper Waste Management Limited, which was incorporated in July 2025. A critical element of the deal was the novation of a long-term waste-to-energy fuel supply agreement that the company held with a major blue-chip power station. The sale will see the control of the site and operations transferred to the Preece and Millward families.
Steve Currie, director at Currie Young, commented: "We are pleased to have delivered a solution that not only protects jobs but also supports the region’s long-term environmental goals.”
"Our team worked intensively to secure a deal that gives the business a future and ensures that it can continue to play a vital role in the region’s waste management strategy."
Following the acquisition, the company’s new management is already working alongside the Environment Agency to ensure responsible site clearance and sustainable operational planning moving forward.
Hyper Waste Management director Calvin Preece said: "This acquisition marks a new chapter for the business and the region. Our priority has been to safeguard jobs, work hand-in-hand with regulators, and put in place a strategy that ensures sustainable waste management for the future."
In accounts for the year to July 31 2023, Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre Limited’s fixed assets were valued at £9.2 million and current assets at around £726,000, with net assets amounting to approximately £8.3 million.
