The business and assets of a gin maker based in Yorkshire have been acquired out of administration. Spirit of Harrogate Limited, which fell into administration earlier this month, is the retailer and owner of the Slingsby Gin product range.
Founded in 2014, the Harrogate-based company traded from a store on Montpellier Parade, employing five members of staff.
Earlier this year, the company instructed Lewis Business Recovery & Insolvency to assist with placing it into administration as it struggled with rising costs and challenging trading conditions.
Following a period of marketing, the company was placed into administration on March 18 2026, with Matthew Russell and Gareth Lewis of Lewis Business Recovery & Insolvency appointed as joint administrators.
Immediately following the appointment of the joint administrators, the business and assets of Spirit of Harrogate Limited were sold to Brightside Spirits Limited. The deal ensures that the Slingsby product range will continue, while some jobs have been preserved.
However, owing to its large overheads, the company’s shop in Harrogate has closed.
Joint administrator Gareth Lewis commented: "I am pleased to report that the pre-packaged sale will see the continuation of the well-respected Slingsby Gin product range and brand, maintaining continuity of supply to customers across the UK. The sale has maximised the return for creditors and preserved some jobs, all of which will be reported on in line with my duties as joint administrator.”
Chris Williams, director of Brightside Spirits Ltd, said: "Our immediate focus is on stabilising the business, rebuilding production, and ensuring that the outstanding quality and character of Slingsby remain at the heart of everything we do. Over the coming months, we will be investing in the brand, strengthening local partnerships, and exploring new ways to celebrate the craftsmanship that made this gin so special.”
In accounts for the year to February 28 2025, Spirit of Harrogate Limited’s fixed assets were valued at around £173,000 and current assets at £806,000. However, the company’s net liabilities stood at close to £5 million at the time.
