Business recycling group CIRQLR has acquired Sommers Waste Solutions Ltd (SWS) in a deal that expands its coverage across the whole of the UK. SWS provides services across a range of commerce and industry, specialising in the care, education and housing management sectors.
The acquisition of the Luton-headquartered business expands CIRQLR’s waste and recycling service reach from its existing base covering the East, South and Midlands of England to the whole of the UK.
Following the acquisition, SWS will continue to offer commercial and industrial customers its full range of sustainable waste and recycling services, while benefitting from the additional support provided by CIRQLR’s eight regional businesses.
CIRQLR operates a total of 19 recycling facilities, with a network of integrated subsidiaries comprising: SWS; Chambers Waste Management; Cox Group; KP Waste; Eco; Select; Allgia; Wilrose and Castle Environmental.
As it continues to increase its network and processing capability, CIRQLR eventually expects that it will be able to increase the amount of recycling materials it handles per year from its current level of 600,000 tonnes to over 1 million tonnes.
David Palmer-Jones OBE, chief executive and founder of CIRQLR, said: "The arrival of SWS comes at an exciting time for CIRQLR, offering a step change in our national coverage and the goal to provide a more circular approach to the way businesses manage their materials.”
"Businesses across industry sectors every week ask us to address their desire to improve their sustainability aided by the Government's ambitious regulatory support for a more circular economy.”
Palmer-Jones added that CIRQLR was welcoming the SWS team, including Managing Director Mark Sommers, who he said would add “his considerable experience and client-focused approach to CIRQLR's senior operations team.”
Mark Sommers said that the deal came at the right time for SWS and its customers, as they seek “a greater variety of recycling services to address a rapidly changing regulatory landscape.”
He continued: "Being part of CIRQLR offers only upsides for existing SWS customers and opens new opportunities to leverage the knowledge and facilities that CIRQLR's regional subsidiaries can offer."
