Worldwide logistics specialist CLdN has acquired Samskip’s quay-to-quay and door-to-door freight business between mainland Europe, the UK and Ireland. The services will officially transfer to CLdN on June 29, 2026, after all conditions for the acquisition were fulfilled.
The deal will see CLdN take over the container shipping services that Samskip currently operates between Rotterdam and the UK ports of Belfast, Blyth, Grangemouth, Hull and Tilbury and the Irish ports of Cork, Dublin and Waterford.
CLdN says that the services deliver more than 1,000 port calls per year, carrying cargo for a broad customer base that includes major consumer goods manufacturers. The deal also covers door-to-door cargo services connecting the UK and Ireland with continental Europe.
The acquisition will see lease agreements for over 5,000 multimodal cargo units transfer to CLdN, including 45ft pallet-wide containers, refrigerated containers, curtain-side containers, 40ft and 45ft flat racks and 40ft high-cube refrigerated containers.
CLdN says that it will seek to provide customers of the services that Samskip currently offers with a “seamless continuation”.
The deal expands the group’s short-sea container shipping network, as well as strengthening its integrated RoRo and LoLo services. This aligns with the group’s strategy of combining roll-on/roll-off services for mixed cargo and lift-on/lift-off services for containerised freight.
The addition of the Samskip services also increases the scale of CLdN’s multimodal logistics operations, particularly between the UK, Ireland and Central and Eastern Europe.
When the sale was initially announced in February, Samskip said that the transaction would enable it to increase its focus on its long-distance multimodal network linking mainland Europe with North African, Iberia, the Nordics and Baltics.
Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, CEO of Samskip, commented: “Our industry continues to evolve rapidly, and successful organizations must evolve with it. This milestone allows us to focus our efforts on what matters most to our customers: reliable services, strong regional expertise, and a seamless multimodal network that helps simplify increasingly complex supply chains.”
