A Cumbria-based group providing recycling, waste collections and treatment services across the area has been acquired from its private equity owner. Cumbria Waste Group serves municipal and commercial customers in Cumbria.
The group has now been acquired from previous owner Waterland Private Equity by FCC enviro through its UK affiliate FCC Environment UK. The acquisition enables FCC enviro, which has been operating in the British market since 1989, to bolster its geographic coverage and expand its product and service offering.
Steven Longdon, Chief Executive Officer of FCC Environment UK, described the deal as “another very positive move for our business here in the UK” and one that further strengthens its “core services and our customer service proposition.”
Longdon continued: “With strong cultural and operational alignment between the businesses, we are looking forward to welcoming the Cumbria Waste Group team and to continuing to deliver exceptional services both to existing and to our new clients”.
Cumbria Waste Group provides total waste solutions for customers across Cumbria, with services including operating material recovery, hazardous & liquid waste treatment, household waste recycling facilities and composting, as well as waste, recycling and organic collections.
In accounts for the year to March 31 2024, Cumbria Waste Management Limited, trading as Cumbria Waste Group, reported turnover of £37.8 million, up from £36.7 million a year earlier, but saw operating profits approximately halve from around £2.8 million to slightly over £1.4 million.
In their report, directors attributed the 3 per cent increase in turnover to the business consolidating its position in the North East, with expansion driven by the addition of a site in Middlesbrough. Discussing the drop in operating profit, meanwhile, directors cited a £1.8 million release of provision in relation to a contractual dispute that had featured in the previous year's results.
At the time, the group’s fixed assets were valued at £17.9 million and current assets at approximately £13.2 million, while net assets amounted to around £7.7 million.
