Cofast, a fastening supplier with sites in Plymouth and the West Midlands, has been acquired out of administration in a deal that saves more than 60 roles across the business.
Plympton-based Cofast and engineering supplies business NDB Engineering, a sister company of Cofast, have been acquired out of administration by engineering group Clarity Group for an undisclosed sum.
According to Clarity Group, the deal will provide security for the business, as well as investment in robotics and productivity improvements. Group Chairman Kevin Robinson described the acquisition as “a perfect opportunity to increase our presence in two industrial markets that are receiving unprecedented investment.”
Robinson continued: “Both NDB Engineering and Cofast, a leading provider of standard fasteners and engineering supplies, have excellent relationships in defence and nuclear that we want to maximise through increased efficiencies and investment in the latest technology.”
According to Robinson, the deal delivers a number of shared synergies with Clarity Plastics and other associated engineering businesses within the group.
Following the acquisition, Cofast will trade under its existing name and will begin looking to secure financial backing as it targets opportunities across decommissioning and large domestic naval projects.
Rebecca James, Managing Director of Cofast and NDB Engineering, will continue to lead the business alongside Technical Director Andy Williams. Cofast will also continue to operate from its purpose-built, 22,000 sq ft Willenhall manufacturing hub and its 6,500 sq ft logistics centre, located in Plympton, Plymouth.
The business, which employs 64 staff, generates £7 million in annual revenues across its fasteners and turned parts order book, with a 20,000-strong list of engineered consumables.
Rebecca James commented: “We have been delivering critical parts for the nuclear and defence sector for nearly three decades, with our turned parts and fasteners used in applications deployed by some of the world’s biggest organisations.”
“This trust in our manufacturing ability is something we can really drive by being part of a bigger group. There are lots of opportunities in new infrastructure projects and we’re already working alongside our sister businesses to explore new markets where our engineering knowledge and machine capacity can make a difference - aerospace is a prime target.”
