Cardiff-based electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure firm Plug Charging has completed its third acquisition in a year with a deal for EV infrastructure specialist Energy Park. The acquisition sees Plug Charging take on Energy Park’s charging estate and associated customer contracts.
The deal supports Plug Charging’s ambition of delivering reliable EV charging infrastructure in areas that are underserved by larger operators, adding strategically-located charging assets across North Wales, Surrey and Penzance to its growing national network.
The addition of Energy Park significantly boosts the firm’s presence in North Wales, which is seeing accelerating EV adoption but has public charging provision below national averages, while expanding its reach into key areas of England.
Post-acquisition, Energy Park customers will transition onto Plug Charging’s platform, which features network management, 24/7 driver support and proactive monitoring.
The acquisition of Energy Park follows Plug Charging’s earlier integration of charging assets from Wattif and Pilot Group and reflects the company’s wider buy-and-build strategy. The company, one of the UK’s fastest-growing independent EV charge point operators, is continuing to seek further acquisitions.
Plug Charging says it is actively capitalising on consolidation in the UK EV charging market, as operators come under growing pressure to deliver consistent service levels, achieve scale and maximise asset utilisation.
As well as targeting strategic acquisitions, the company is undertaking organic expansion across its growing commercial charging network, along with EV charging infrastructure projects delivered through regional and national procurement frameworks.
Jarrad Morris, Founder and CEO of Plug Charging, commented: “This acquisition is about scale. The charging market remains fragmented, with many high-quality assets sitting within smaller networks. Our strategy is to bring those assets together under a single operating platform, improve performance and customer experience, and build a national network with the scale needed to succeed long term.”
“Energy Park has developed an excellent portfolio of sites in strategically important locations and we’re excited to bring them into the Plug Charging network. This is our third acquisition in 12 months, and we continue to see significant opportunities across the market.”
“North Wales is a particularly important market for us. EV adoption continues to grow rapidly, but charging infrastructure has not always kept pace. This acquisition strengthens our position in the region and supports our wider mission of delivering high-quality charging where it is needed most.”
