Electrogenic, an Oxfordshire-headquartered developer of electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, has acquired a California-based counterpart in a deal that establishes a permanent base in the US and a platform to expand across North America.
The company has acquired TREMEC Electric GT, a developer of turn-key EV powertrains for low-volume manufacturers. The firm supports specialist vehicle builders with integration and supplying the aftermarket conversion sector through its range of e-Crate 'swap' systems.
TREMEC Electric GT’s systems are plug-and-play packages, electrifying a wide array of vehicles using their existing body, frame, suspension and driveline. The company has previously electrified cars ranging from American muscle cars to classic sports cars.
Electrogenic’s acquisition of TREMEC Electric GT follows years of growth for the Kidlington-based company in the North American market and will enable it to reach a larger customer base.
Steve Drummond, Chief Executive of Electrogenic, described TREMEC Electric GT as “an exciting business underpinned by a talented and like-minded team.”
He continued: "The USA is our most important market, and we wanted to provide additional support to our US partners, as well as establishing a strategic base in California as part of our ongoing SDV software development programme.”
"It will enable us to accelerate new products, extend our manufacturing options and further elevate our service offering for new and existing customers across North America. Our teams have been working together for some time, and the acquisition seemed a natural evolution for both TREMEC, Electrogenic and the Huntington Beach team.”
Drummond added that the deal would provide the company with “a technical centre of expertise on the USA West coast”, with the two firms now set to “continue to explore future mutual opportunities in advanced technology and manufacturing.”
