Treatt, a Suffolk-based flavour manufacturer, is set to be acquired by German firm Döhler Group in a deal worth £183 million. Founded in 1886 as an essential oil merchant, Treatt produces a range of natural extracts and ingredients.
The company, which is headquartered in Bury St Edmunds, supplies customers across more than 90 countries. In the year to September 30 2025, Treatt reported revenue of £132.5 million, down from £150.2 million a year earlier, while EBITDA fell from £23.7 million to £12.8 million.
Treatt has now agreed to a takeover by Döhler Group, a global producer and seller of natural ingredients. The deal enables Döhler Group, which has worked with Treatt for many years, to expand its US production footprint and target new markets.
Döhler Group Chief Marketing Officer Martin Tolksdorf described Treatt as “a high-quality business with a rich heritage of product excellence, strong customer relationships and a deep-rooted culture of innovation.”
Adding that the deal represented “a natural and highly complementary evolution of our partnership”, Tolksdorf continued: "By combining two businesses with closely aligned values, technical expertise and customer-led cultures, we can further expand our product offering, build on our combined innovation capabilities and enhance the end-to-end solutions we provide to customers globally.”
Vijay Thakrar, chair of Treatt, commented: "The board believes that the proposed acquisition by Döhler represents a positive outcome for Treatt shareholders, providing the certainty of a cash exit for shareholders at an attractive value.”
"It also provides enhanced long-term support for Treatt within a larger strategic platform with access to significant resources. Döhler would be a highly complementary owner for Treatt, offering the scale, resources and global platform to support the business' development over time.”
Thakrar said that the combination of Döhler's established platform and international network with Treatt’s technical and innovation capabilities would provide “a strong foundation for future growth within an ownership structure with family culture and long-term investment at its core.”
He continued: "Being part of the Döhler Group will provide significant development opportunities for Treatt's employees and for Treatt to accelerate its new product innovation to develop even more products for customers with access to Döhler's deep ingredients expertise.”
"We believe that becoming part of the Döhler Group positions the business well for its next phase and will deliver a positive outcome for shareholders, employees and customers alike."
