Timber processing group Glennon Brothers has added £120 million in turnover to its business with the acquisition of a timber processing firm situated on the Wales border. Pontrilas Group, which was founded in 1947, has bases in Hereford, Llanelli and Llangennech, Carmarthenshire.
Pontrilas is the largest timber processing mill in England and Wales, with a team of more than 530 staff. The £120 million-turnover business, which was founded in 1947 by the Hickman family, is led by an experienced and long-serving management team.
Founded in Longford, Ireland in 1913, Glennon Brothers is a third-generation timber processing business, now led by joint Managing Directors Pat and Mike Glennon. In the year to December 30 2024, the company reported turnover of £82.3 million, up from £72.7 million a year earlier, and operating profit of £2.5 million.
Commenting on the acquisition, joint Managing Director Mike Glennon said that the addition of Pontrilas Group would provide Glennon Brothers’ customers “with an enhanced product and service offering, as well as increased overall production capacity for the future.”
He continued: “This acquisition allows us to continue fulfilling our commitment to our customers of offering a one stop shop solution for sawn softwood across the UK and Ireland."
Pat Glennon added that the deal was an opportunity to add value to the firm’s established supply chain and core business and that Pontrilas “further enhances our capability to operate fully from forest to front door."
In Pontrilas Group Limited’s most recent accounts available at Companies House, for the year ending July 31 2024, it reported turnover of £112.8 million, up from £111.8 million a year earlier, while operating profits dropped from £7.2 million to £5.6 million.
At the time, its fixed assets were valued at £44 million and current assets at £42.3 million, with net assets amounting to £51.2 million.
