Initiate acquires Sheffield's Dark Peak Analytics in first bolt-on

Initiate, a QPE-backed market access and health economics consultancy, has acquired Sheffield-based Dark Peak Analytics in the first deal of a buy-and-build strategy launched after Queen's Park Equity invested in the business in December 2025.

The acquisition, announced on 7 September 2026, brings together two specialist consultancies serving the global pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. MHA Corporate Finance advised Queen’s Park Equity.

Dark Peak Analytics was formed in 2020 and operates from Sheffield. The consultancy combines scientific expertise with advanced data analysis to support healthcare decision-making for pharmaceutical and life sciences companies, with capabilities spanning health economic modelling, health technology assessment, statistical modelling and software development for HEOR. Its work draws heavily on open-source and technology-led approaches to health economic evaluation.

Dr Robert Smith, Managing Director of Dark Peak Analytics, becomes Chief Scientific Officer of Initiate as part of the combination.

Initiate is a specialist global market access and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) consultancy with offices in Northampton, London, and Zug in Switzerland. It supports pharmaceutical, biotechnology and healthcare clients across evidence generation, value demonstration, pricing, reimbursement and patient access. The firm has delivered more than 130 HTA submissions with a reported 98 per cent success rate and works with more than 80 global pharmaceutical clients and affiliates across more than 50 countries, with a particular focus on rare and complex diseases.

Queen's Park Equity backed Initiate in December 2025 in a deal that facilitated a management buyout and gave the consultancy capital to expand internationally and pursue acquisitions. That investment was the first from QPE's £305 million second fund, which closed oversubscribed in March 2025. QPE is a UK private equity firm focused on entrepreneur-led businesses in the education, health and pharma, and tech and business services sectors, investing up to £70 million per deal in companies with enterprise values of between £15 million and £100 million.

The Dark Peak acquisition is Initiate's first bolt-on since the QPE investment. The enlarged business combines market access, HEOR, modelling, analytics and technology-enabled services, extending Initiate's reach across the HEOR value chain and earlier into the product lifecycle as pharmaceutical clients face growing complexity in market access, HTA and evidence requirements.

The combination provides a platform for further investment in people, technology and operations. At the time of its investment, QPE said Initiate would grow both organically and through carefully selected acquisitions.
