Kids Planet Day Nurseries has expanded its UK presence to nearly 300 locations with the addition of nine sites in Leicestershire. The acquisition of Hunny Pot Nursery Group significantly strengthens Kids Planet’s presence across the East Midlands.
Hunny Pot Nursery Group operates sites in a cluster of commuter towns and villages with large family populations to the South and West of the city of Leicester. The portfolio includes nurseries in Wigston, Birstall, Kibworth, Countesthorpe, Oadby, Whetstone, Fleckney and Coalville.
Hunny Pot’s nurseries are focused on early years education and the network has an established management structure and workforce that will transfer to Kids Planet as part of the transaction.
The acquisition brings in nine nursery managers and the wider teams working under them, along with two area managers, a recruitment administrator, operations administrator and finance administrator.
Kids Planet founder and Chief Executive Clare Roberts said that Hunny Pot was “a natural addition” to the group, saying the two shared similar values and a commitment to early years education.
She continued: “We’re excited to welcome their teams and families and to support the nurseries as we invest in their future, while strengthening Kids Planet’s presence across the East Midlands.”
Post-acquisition, Kids Planet says it plans to invest in the newly-acquired nurseries, including in enhanced learning environments and staff development, in line with its wider growth strategy.
Kids Planet’s latest acquisition comes less than a month after the group’s private equity backer Fremman Capital announced the successful closing of a continuation fund to support the next phase of the company’s growth.
Founded in 2008 with just two sites, Kids Planet has used M&A and organic growth to establish itself as one of the UK’s biggest nursery operators, recording turnover of £204.5 million in the year to March 31 2025.
The acquisition of Hunny Pot Nursery Group takes Kids Planet to more than 280 nurseries across the UK, serving over 40,000 children.
