Major private equity-backed UK nursery group Kids Planet Day Nurseries has passed the milestone of 250 UK settings with the acquisition of a group that operates four nurseries across the North of England.
The group has acquired Shine Childcare, a private family-run nursery group founded in 2004 that has grown to comprise four freehold day nursery settings. The group operates Little Angels in Huddersfield, Newbank House in Oldham, Tiny Tree in Halifax, and Tiny Tree in Leeds.
Shine Childcare’s nurseries have a combined operational capacity of 570 places, with an opportunity to register an additional 60 places at Tiny Tree in Halifax, increasing the potential capacity across the group to 630 places. The group’s nurseries provide full-day childcare services covering children from birth to 11 years, including holiday clubs and before- and after-school provision.
The group has now been sold to Kids Planet Day Nurseries for an undisclosed price, following a confidential sales process run by Courteney Donaldson and Nick Brown at Christie & Co.
Nick Brown, Head of Brokerage – Childcare and Education at Christie & Co, commented: "We are thrilled to have successfully facilitated this significant transaction. The portfolio represents an outstanding opportunity for Kids Planet to expand its footprint and continue delivering excellence in early years education. All parties have done a fabulous job in getting this renowned group to completion."
Formed in 2008 with just two sites, Kids Planet has expanded through M&A and development to establish itself as one of the biggest nursery operators in the UK, with sites spanning the country.
In the year ending March 31 2025, a period when the group increased its portfolio from 189 sites to 233, Kids Planet Day Nurseries Limited reported turnover of £204.5 million, up from approximately £144 million a year earlier, while cutting operating losses from £7.2 million to around £1.8 million.
