A warehousing business based in Manchester has been acquired by international freight forwarding company Uniexpress as part of its growth strategy. Service Warehousing Limited specialises in the handling of textiles across a range of industries, operating its own transport services along the M62 corridor.
The acquisition brings an end to more than 36 years of ownership by David Mason, who acquired the business in 1989. At that time, the company was based out of Atlas Mills in Bolton, before moving to its current location on North Street, Radcliffe in 1992.
Post-acquisition, Service Warehousing will continue to operate under its existing name as part of the Uniexpress Group. The deal enables the Bradford-headquartered group to expand its portfolio of owned warehouse premises, supporting its long-term capacity growth and reducing its reliance on rented space.
Uniexpress Chief Executive Michael Fitzpatrick said that the two businesses “align closely in the value we place on our people, with loyalty playing a central role in both our employee culture and long-standing customer relationships.”
He continued: "We look forward to building on these strong foundations and expanding our relationships with Service Warehousing’s customers, offering them access to a broader range of logistics services."
David Mason, former owner of Service Warehousing Limited, said that the beginning of the integration process had demonstrated the close alignment of the two businesses, adding that he was confident the combination would continue to benefit the company’s staff and customers.
In accounts for the year ending June 30 2024, Uniexpress Limited reported turnover of around £46 million, down from £59.5 million a year earlier, while operating profit fell from £798,510 to approximately £350,000.
M&A in the UK's logistics sector was dampened by economic and geopolitical headwinds last year, but resilient dealmaking appetite means there is confidence that activity will recover in 2026
