North Shields-based marine equipment provider Marine Chandlery has expanded with the acquisition of Powerhouse Marine Limited, a boat maintenance firm based in Blaydon-on-Tyne, with the move marking the latest significant milestone in its growth strategy.
Powerhouse Marine has provided expertise in the sale, service, spares and repairs of marine products since 1987. Following the acquisition, the company’s site in Blaydon has closed, with its full operations and servicing team relocating to Marine Chandlery’s site in North Shields.
Marine Chandlery was established in 2024 via the acquisition of Storrar Marine. The company saw further growth when it acquired the assets of Brixham-based Bayside Marine in November 2024, with the stock transfer completing in early December.
The latest acquisition builds on these deals, with M&A now helping to have positioned Marine Chandlery as one of the North East’s leading marine suppliers, combining digital accessibility and enhanced customer service with decades of knowledge and experience.
Marine Chandlery owner Geoff Moore said that the company had achieved “remarkable growth in a short time, focusing on in-store and e-commerce sales of a wide variety of marine products, and establishing our servicing department.”
He added that, via the acquisition of Powerhouse Marine, the company was “determined to expand our service offering, and to carry forward their long-standing tradition of excellence and continue serving the maritime community in the North East and beyond for decades to come."
Powerhouse Marine owner Mike Newbold hailed the deal for keeping the company under the ownership of a local marine business, adding that he was confident that Marine Chandlery would continue to see success with the business and that the team would continue to serve its longstanding customer base.
