Nicklin Transit Packaging, a Wednesbury-based transport and transit packaging firm, has expanded with the acquisition of an Aldridge-based counterpart. The acquisition of Geddes Packaging adds around 40 staff to Nicklin Transit Packaging’s 130-strong team as part of the wider NICKLIN Group of Companies.
Nicklin Transport Packaging is a fourth-generation family business, working with major manufacturers and businesses across sectors including engineering, construction, logistics, industrial, aerospace and automotive.
Calling the deal “a very positive and important step in the continued growth of Nicklin Transit Packaging”, Managing Director David Nicklin (pictured above) said: "Geddes Packaging is a business we know and respect, with a long history in the sector, a skilled team and a customer base that values quality, reliability and personal service. Those are values that align closely with our own, which is why we believe this acquisition is such a strong fit.”
According to Nicklin, the business is growing at a time when the wider packaging industry is seeing significant consolidation, adding that the acquisition would strengthen the group’s long-term customer relationships, capabilities and ability to provide a “responsive, high-quality service.”
He added that the deal was “an opportunity to build on the best of both businesses”, with Geddes being a longstanding firm with strong customer relationships and the combination of the two companies “creating a stronger independent packaging business with greater capacity, broader capability and an even more compelling offer for customers."
The acquisition forms part of Nicklin’s wider growth strategy, with the century-old company having relocated from Birmingham to Wednesbury due to the HS2 development eight years ago.
Nicklin said: "Our ambition is to create a better, stronger and more sustainable business that can serve customers more effectively and provide long-term opportunities for our people. In a rapidly evolving sector and wider business environment, the acquisition of Geddes Packaging is a really significant and exciting milestone in achieving those ambitions."
