Uniwater, a Northern European water infrastructure specialist, has entered the UK market for the first time with the acquisition of an engineering company based in Somerset. The group’s acquisition of WCI expands its presence beyond the Nordic region and provides it with a foothold in the UK’s water and wastewater sector.
The deal brings in a specialist engineering business with expertise that spans design, construction, maintenance and natural capital services.
The acquisition signals Sweden-headquartered Uniwater’s aim of expanding its presence in Britain’s water infrastructure market, at a time when water companies are investing in long-term network improvement, asset resilience and environmental performance.
WCI, which was founded in 1983 and employs 24 staff, serves commercial, private and municipal clients across England and Wales, operating exclusively in the water and wastewater sector.
The firm has four core divisions: design and advisory; maintenance and operations; turnkey construction; and natural capital.
According to Brad Taylor, Managing Director of WCI, the deal will help the firm to overcome a number of the challenges smaller engineering firms face, whilst also enabling it to maintain its specialist focus.
He said: “WCI is a well-established and well-regarded brand, but as an SME there are barriers to growth. Uniwater gives us strength to grow, reach a broader client base and access new markets and talent. We are hugely excited to be embarking on this next chapter of our growth as part of Uniwater.”

Uniwater is among the largest specialist water infrastructure groups in Northern Europe, comprising 25 small and medium-sized businesses operating across the Nordic region and providing services spanning water treatment, wider infrastructure and flow management.
The approximately 700-strong group generates annual revenues of around SEK 2.4 billion (approx. £185 million).
