Darlington EMS, a Stockport-based electronic parts and components manufacturer, has been acquired by listed Swedish group Storskogen. The acquisition will see the 70-strong company join Storskogen’s international group of 114 business units spanning 30 countries.
Darlington EMS specialises in wiring harnesses, printed circuit board assembly and control panel design and build, with its services ranging from early-stage design support through to full production.
Post-acquisition, the company’s existing management team, led by Managing Director David Darlington, will continue to lead the business.
Stockholm-headquartered Storskogen is an international group of businesses that acquires and develops leading SMEs across the trade, industry and service areas.
The acquisition of Darlington EMS forms part of the group’s continued strategic objective of broadening and strengthening its presence in key overseas markets, with the UK being a region of particular focus.
Darlington EMS Managing Director David Darlington said: "Becoming part of an international group will offer our business new opportunities for growth, innovation and collaboration.”
"We believe that Storskogen's long-term perspective and broad network will not only strengthen our ability to serve our existing customers, but also open doors to new markets and partnerships."
Chris Pullen, head of Storskogen UK, said that Darlington EMS’s “strong position in a niche market with significant barriers to entry makes it an excellent addition to our portfolio, and we see potential for collaboration with similar businesses in the group."
BTG's Deal Advisory team, led by M&A specialist and director Emma Jones, provided corporate finance advice and supported the acquisition. Jones said that the deal was not just a boost for North West industry, but also reflected “the strong potential for international investment in UK manufacturing and engineering.”
Jones continued: "Through the acquisition, we have been able to bring together the two companies to seize the opportunities they provide each other and set their trajectories towards sustainable growth and long-term success.”
"UK industry is resilient and has plenty of potential for growth into the future and we expect to see more M&A activity in the sector to give manufacturing and engineering firms the boost they need to achieve growth. Being able to facilitate the investment in a leading company is a great example of the opportunities and we look forward to seeing the impact the deal has for both companies."
