A retail support provider based in the West Midlands has been acquired in a pre-pack deal that secures close to 40 jobs. UK Operational Project Support Ltd (UKOPS) had experienced financial strain as a result of factors including Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Founded in 2005, the Staffordshire-based company was an established presence in the retail operations market and specialised in building maintenance and facilities management.
The significant disruption caused by both Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, however, led to the firm experiencing prolonged periods of operational downtime as a result of paused client activity and retail site closures.
The company subsequently experienced significant financial difficulties and Crown arrears that severely impacted its cash flow and periodic working capital requirements.
Pressure applied by HMRC led the company’s director to seek advice from Dean Nelson, head of Business Recovery and Restructuring at PKF Smith Cooper, in an effort to determine options to protect the firm’s goodwill, creditors and employees.
This resulted in the company being sold to Euro Operational Project Support Ltd (EuroOPS) in a pre-packaged deal that secured all 37 jobs at the business.
Dean Nelson commented: "I am thrilled with the outcome we have achieved in saving the business as a going concern, securing all jobs and a bright future for the business.”
"Seeking assistance at the first sign of distress is the best way to understand, determine, and secure future options for your business, protecting customers and employees."
In accounts for the year to November 30 2024, UK-Operational Project Support Limited’s fixed assets were valued at slightly under £380,000 and current assets at approximately £800,000, with net assets amounting to around £229,000.
