US technology buy-and-build group Evergreen has continued its UK expansion with the acquisition of Datel, one of the UK’s leading Sage partners, through its Pine Services Group subsidiary.
The acquisition brings Evergreen’s total number of acquisitions in the UK to 11, alongside an additional two deals in Ireland. The company is seeking to grow through M&A in the UK, targeting technology services firms, founder-led MSPs and software specialists.
The group’s previous acquisitions across Britain include MSPs The Final Step, Digital Origin, ITBuilder, Certum and CIS Ltd., and ERP and Sage specialists Equation Technologies, Eureka Solutions and Inixion.
Warrington-headquartered Datel, which was founded in 1981, provides Sage software, consultancy, implementation, systems integration, software development and managed cloud hosting services.
Post-acquisition, Datel will continue to operate under its existing brand and leadership team as part of Pine Services Group. However, founder and chairman Alan Simpson will step down after leading the company for over four decades, with Stuart Morland becoming CEO.
According to Evergreen, Datel will continue to operate independently following the group’s takeover, bolstered by plans for further investment in its service capabilities, technology platform, people and long-term growth.
New CEO Stuart Morland said that the deal would strengthen the firm’s capacity to support customers, while preserving its existing culture.
He commented: “Our commitment to our people, to Sage and its products, and to our customers is unwavering. The new ownership brings investment, expertise, and support that will help us continue to grow, innovate, and deliver value to our customers and partners.”
Derk Bleeker, Chief Commercial Officer at Sage, said: “Datel and Pine are both cornerstone partners for Sage and have created tremendous value for their customers across the US and UK using Sage’s technology. In coming together, they will accelerate their growth and support even more customers on Sage’s platform.”
Evergreen’s acquisition strategy follows a long-term ownership model, with acquired businesses able to retain their brands, operational independence and leadership teams, while benefitting from increased investment and expertise.
The group’s Head of Mergers and Acquisitions, Ramsey Sahyoun, indicated that this model had been integral in outgoing Datel CEO Alan Simpson’s decision to sell to the group.
Sahyoun said: “I’m thrilled that our commitment to holding our companies forever and to operating them independently ultimately led to Alan choosing Evergreen as the home for his business, and we plan to deliver on those commitments for decades to come.”
