Wild Child Animation Limited, an animation studio and content provider based in Scotland, has been acquired out of administration in a pre-pack deal. Stirling-based Wild Child Animation has worked on productions for Disney, Warner Bros, BBC, Sky and Cartoon Network.
The £5.7 million-turnover company fell into administration in February 2026, with administrators saying that the collapse was driven by challenges facing the wider animation industry, including the impact of AI and numerous national broadcasters opting not to commission new content.
Joint administrators Gordon McIntyre and Donald McKinnin of Wbg Services have now completed a sale of the business to Stirling Animation Studio Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Magic Light Pictures, via a pre-pack administration process.
Magic Light Pictures, a creator of family entertainment and producer of the upcoming Zog series, was the main customer of Wild Child Animation prior to the company’s collapse. Following the appointment of administrators, Magic Light Pictures stepped in to support the business during a marketing exercise, meeting employee costs and monthly obligations to contractors working on Zog.
Joint administrator Gordon McIntyre said that the sale of Wild Child Animation’s business and assets to Magic Light’s Stirling Animation Studio had secured 30 jobs.
Martin Pope and Michael Rose, joint Chief Executives at Magic Light Pictures, added: “We've acted quickly to protect something valuable – a brilliant team, a major production, and a key part of Scotland’s animation capability.”
“It’s been important to provide stability and renewed confidence for the crew at a critical time. The formation of Stirling Animation Studio will ensure completion of our Zog series, and we hope it can also be a platform for future productions.”
“We are already exploring ideas about the future so we can support the next generation of world-class animation talent in Scotland.”
In accounts for the year to December 31 2024, Wild Child Animation Limited’s fixed assets were valued at around £968,000 and current assets at approximately £900,000, with net assets totalling £84,494.
