Swedish investor Röko AB has acquired a majority stake in a Yorkshire-headquartered building products group. Röko AB has acquired 85 per cent of shares in Access Building Products Group Limited (ABP Group), with the remaining 15 per cent to be owned by the group’s Managing Director Bob Elderton.
ABP Group has its head office in Tockwith, near York, and is a specialist manufacturer and supplier of products for commercial and residential buildings, primarily focusing on access panels and door canopies, in which it is a UK market leader.
The group supplies trade customers, contractors, housebuilders and end customers through its Access Building Products, Jupiter Blue and House of Canopies brands. In addition to its head office, the group has UK manufacturing sites in Tamworth and Bolton.
The ABP Group is the holding company for four wholly-owned subsidiaries: Access Building Products Ltd, Jupiter Blue Ltd, House of Canopies Ltd and GRP Products Ltd. It generates consolidated sales of around £15 million and employs 88 staff.
Bob Elderton, Managing Director and minority shareholder of the Access Building Products Group, commented: "We are delighted that the Access Building Products Group is becoming part of Röko and are excited to continue to grow the businesses as part of an international organisation. With Röko’s exceptional track record, we are convinced that we have found the right owner to support the next phase of our journey."
ABP Group shareholders Bob Elderton and Martin Siswick were advised by a team comprising Roger Esler and Mike Barker of Dow Schofield Watts (Corporate Finance), Andy Francey and Megan Atack of Freeths LLP (Legal) and Vicky Mackerell of Xeinadin (Tax and Accounting).
Roger Esler, Corporate Finance Partner at Dow Schofield Watts, described the transaction as a “cross-border sale to a strategic buyer with a proven track record of acquiring and growing specialist businesses.”
Sweden-headquartered Röko AB is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm with a market capitalisation of around £1.8 billion. The group currently owns 32 companies from a variety of industries across Europe.
